Leading law and professional services group Cains has been given top-band ranking across two practice areas in the prestigious Chambers UK Guide for 2017.
The Douglas-based firm has once again been top-ranked in Corporate and Finance, along with Dispute Resolution in the independent guide to the best UK law firms.
A total of nine Cains lawyers have been named as ‘Notable Practitioners’ in the latest edition, with the firm’s managing director Andrew Corlett OBE highlighted as an ‘Eminent Practitioner’.
Every year, law firms and individual lawyers are ranked based on the research of Chambers’ extensive team of editors and researchers who rely on in-depth interviews with lawyers and clients.
Across Corporate and Finance, Cains is acknowledged as a “leader in capital markets, restructuring and aviation finance, with clients including banks, hedge funds and local companies. The firm provides dedicated expertise in space and satellite issues, with strengths in contract negotiation, financing and regulatory matters.”
In Dispute Resolution, Cains is noted as a leader in complex commercial dispute work, including shareholder litigation, trust matters, freezing orders and professional negligence claims.
In the editorial, one client said: “To me, they are by far head and shoulders above any other firm. In this field they’re the best. They’re practical, approachable and speak in plain English,” with another praising the team’s technical expertise.
The individuals praised by clients include the head of Cains’ corporate department, Richard Vanderplank, who is described as “extremely affable, thorough and very easy to work with”. The head of the commercial litigation department, Seth Caine, is considered as a “leading light in commercial litigation matters”, with clients dubbing him “the leader in his field on the island and our go-to person.”
