Cains Advocates and Golf Union combine for Junior Coaching scheme

26th January 2005

Isle of Man Golf Union and Cains Advocates have combined to launch a new Junior Golfer Coaching initative for the Island. The scheme, which will involve all the local clubs, will provide sessions from top coach Andrew Dyson to promising youngsters. It will begin in May and run through to September culminating in a competition for all qualifiers at Mount Murray early in the month.

Qualification will be through local clubs. Each month, starting in April, clubs will present five vouchers to their qualifiers – two in the 0 -18 handicap section, two for 19 – 28 and one for 29 plus. The vouchers will entitle them to a coaching session from Andrew at the Mount Murray complex.

Although the Union already has a very successful Junior coaching set up for competent youngsters, it was felt that not enough was being provided for the up-and-comers who, possibly had the talent but were not receiving the encouragement they needed to take them that extra step. This scheme, which is being supported by Cains for the next three years, will identify and help develop this talent.

At a lunch, hosted by Cains senior partner, Mr Andy Corlett, the plan was officially put in place. Mr Corlett said that they were extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to be involved in the program and expressed appreciation for the work that the Union and similar organisations do in providing ‘the glue’ for the Island community, giving so generously of their time. He was very aware of the need to encourage youngsters into sport and was more than happy to lend Cains support.

In response, President of the Union, Mr Terry Groves, was grateful for Cains involvement, adding that without considerate supporters such as themselves, the work of his organisation would be that much more difficult if not impossible.
