Cains brings the Isle of Man to London with the launch of new office
3rd October 2005
Cains Advocates Limited (Cains), the Isle of Man’s longest established international law firm, today announces the expansion of its business with the opening of a London office. The London branch is located in the heart of the City of London, at One Love Lane EC2.
The launch of the London office is the latest in a series of initiatives to expand Cains’ business. The new office will enable the firm to leverage current relationships and further develop its business in the London market and internationally. The office will provide UK support for Cains’ Isle of Man headquarters. The London operation will be headed by corporate lawyer, Daniel Mackelden (who recently joined Cains from Walkers prior to which he worked with Linklaters in London and the Far East), and Charlie Macfarlane, formerly head of marketing at Fleming Private Asset Management.
The Isle of Man is witnessing a period of rapid economic growth facilitated by the phased introduction of a zero rate income tax regime for corporates and tax capping for individuals as well as a series of initiatives designed to entice businesses to invest in and through the Island. This policy, which will be complete by 2006, includes the space and satellite industry, the film industry and the funds industry – key Cains’ specialisms – and supports the significant expansion of the Isle of Man economy.
Daniel Mackelden, head of the new London office, says: “The prospect of opening in London is an exciting one. Our clients are delighted with this addition to our network, which will enable us to better service the needs of our wide international client base.”
Andrew Corlett, Managing Director of Cains, commenting on the launch of the new office: “The opening of the London office is great news for Cains and demonstrates our commitment to service our clients both through the Isle of Man and increasingly through other international centres. The expansion out of the Isle of Man will create a platform for us more easily to access business opportunities in the City and UK. Building the bridge between the Isle of Man and London will enable us to support and strengthen our existing business, as well as create a direct day to day link with the Isle of Man’s finance sector and Cains’ expertise in Isle of Man and other offshore legal and related services.”
