Cains Space Law Prize for International Space University

24th September 2004

Strasbourg, France and Douglas, Isle of Man:

A specific Space Law prize is being offered to the Graduate Students currently enrolled in the Masters programs at the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France, the ‘Cains Prize’. The Cains Prize is generously being offered by the law firm of Cains on the Isle of Man, British Isles, and is valued at $5,000. The Cains Prize is to be offered annually to students for the next five years. This represents the first time a commercial law firm has offered such a prize at the ISU and it highlights the growing focus and commitment of leaders in the Isle of Man offshore legal and financial community to the space industry. Cains is at the forefront of offering tailored and specialized legal services to the world’s community and to the space industry.

In order to win the Cains Prize students must be accepted to the ISU Masters program and have a legal background or demonstrate an interest in the legal aspects of space activity.

Mr. Andrew Corlett, Managing Partner of Cains, said “Cains consider the ISU to be a most remarkable and valuable institution occupying a central position in the space community. Accordingly we are very pleased to offer this support for its students. Cains has had the opportunity of sending several of its staff, including myself, on ISU courses over the last 3 years. This has proved to be of very real benefit to us, not only from a technical, but also from a networking perspective”.

Mr. Michael Simpson, President of ISU, said “The ISU is very appreciative of the generosity shown by Cains in offering this prize and particularly pleased that in offering this prize to a deserving student interested in legal issues associated with space, Cains recognizes the international, intercultural and interdisciplinary nature of the ISU Masters program.”
