New Lawyer and Trainee for Cains Advocates Limited

4th August 2004

Cains Advocates Limited is pleased to announce that Jim Hughes has joined the investment funds unit of its corporate department and that Charlie Whipp has joined the firm as a trainee.

Jim qualified as a solicitor in Northern Ireland and before joining Cains worked in Luxembourg as a lawyer for The Bank of Bermuda group. He has previously worked in Dublin for the Irish Stock Exchange and has experience in most areas of investment funds, stock exchange listings and banking law. He commented, "In my previous roles I had the opportunity to work with Cains on several projects and I was always impressed by their knowledge and professionalism. Cains deal with a lot of complex cross-border transactions and my international experience will complement this type of work. Naturally I am delighted to join such a well respected firm".

Charlie Whipp will be articled to Seth Caine and will start his training in the corporate department. He attended Sherborne School in Dorset where he was a keen cricket and squash player. After graduating from City University with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in law, Charlie stayed in London to complete the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law. He was awarded a Commendation. Charlie is the son of Peter and Barbara Whipp from Maughold, who are pleased that he has chosen to return to the Island.

Richard Vanderplank commented:

“I am delighted to welcome Jim Hughes and Charlie Whipp to the firm. Jim’s first class experience of Isle of Man and other offshore investment vehicles will enhance our existing funds practice and I am sure that he will prove to be a significant asset both to Cains and to the Isle of Man. I am also very pleased that Charlie has decided to pursue his legal career with us, as it is important to the Island that the brightest Manx students remain attracted by the opportunities available to them here”.
