Nine advocates from Douglas-based Cains have been ranked in this year’s Chambers Europe, an independent guide to the continent’s best legal practitioners and firms.
The 2017 edition of the European legal directory awarded three Cains lawyers with top-tier rankings, with managing director Andrew Corlett OBE named as an ‘Eminent Practitioner’.
The guide’s editorial commentary highlights Mr Corlett’s wealth of experience in banking, mutual funds and corporate finance transactions, as well as his additional expertise in satellite and space matters.
Top-ranked Peter Clucas is praised as “excellent for really complex cases” and his “excellent advice and commercial sense.” The editorial cites his extensive experience representing clients in a broad range of commercial disputes, along with his expertise in insolvency and money laundering matters.
The guide also names Cains advocates Richard Vanderplank, Seth Caine, Robert Colquitt, Andrew Baker, Tim Shepherd, Mike Pinson and Tristan Head as ‘Notable Practitioners’.
Published once a year by Chambers and Partners, the rankings are based on in-depth interviews with lawyers and clients conducted by a team of independent researchers.
Along with highlighting the expertise of individual Cains lawyers, the guide also awarded the firm with Band 1 rankings in two practice areas.
The “very commercial and switched-on” Corporate & Finance department is acknowledged as a leader in capital markets, restructuring and aviation finance, with dedicated expertise in space and satellite issues, along with strengths in contract negotiation, financing and regulatory matters.
One client considers Cains’ Dispute Resolution department as the best in its field: “To me, they are by far head and shoulders above any other firm… They’re practical, approachable and speak in plain English.”
