What are we looking for in our trainees?
The lawyers at Cains have all types of backgrounds - some have law degrees; others have studied history or languages; others have had other careers before working with us. What is most important is an ability to fit within the Cains' team. That does not mean we recruit stereotypes, but rather that you are someone who will thrive in our environment and take full advantage of the opportunities available to you.
Cains' trainees must demonstrate a mixture of intellect, enthusiasm, commitment and personality. We seek to recruit students with a mature outlook, plenty of common sense and a willingness to accept responsibility. In addition to excellent academic and personal qualities, we are looking for individuals who can, with our assistance, maintain a balance between the heavy demands of a legal practice with social and family time.
What do trainees do?
We operate a rotation system so that our trainees are exposed to the full range of work that Cains undertakes. As a firm we are small and flexible enough to tailor your training to fulfil both your and the firm's needs. Certainly you will not be spending two years faxing and photocopying; instead you can expect to be fully participating in transactions, drafting court documents and dealing with clients. If this sounds daunting, then please be reassured that a senior lawyer will always be available to guide you.
